Underwear for Valentine's Day doesn't have to look sexy, it doesn't even have to be red. Not to create any rivalry with the guys over at UndiesDrawer.com, as they have reached out to me on more than one occasion, but I am sorely disappointed in their 14 picks for Valentine's Day. Some of the picks are not even attractive, much less sexy. I would seriously doubt any motive, but the choices seemed a bit skewed towards potential advertisers. That does not mean I don't agree with some choices.

Is anybody else underwhelmed by the state of coupons and special offers this holiday season?

Yeah, I know buying underwear as a gift is a bit weird to some people, but it's also the time of year that I like to do a bit of inventory of what I have, what I'd like to have, and what I truly need to get rid of.

The inventory process, typically involving a quick glance through my underwear drawer, inevitably leads to a slew of purchasing around this time of year.

I typically purchase only twice a year. I purchase in winter and in mid-summer. Something about the extremes in weather, I suppose, cause me to reevaluate how I cover up my bits.

JockBoyLocker is doing a nice 12 days of Christmas sale, with as much as 30% off. Freshpair has put a bunch of brands at 25% off, as has BareNecessities, but 25% sales are regular business in the underwear world. Ginch Gonch had the right idea with buy one, get one.

Oh my goodness those tighty-whities are big! I cannot believe I have never come across these briefs before. They're quite hard to miss, I'd think! These men's briefs, are said to be the world's largest pair of underpants.

I would like to give props out to the blog over at yourprivates.com. Good stuff guys! The personal touch is light-hearted and engaging.

So with that personal touch in mind, I'd like to tell you a little bit about, (or more than you could have ever asked for), what I'm wearing today.

I came into a great sale at a department store and ended up with some new stuff the other day. This morning, I just couldn't make up my mind.

The thong that went on was an old Undergear thong I own, the first one I ever bought, as a matter of fact. I don't love it, but it fits alright, and it has sentimental value for opening my eyes to the fact that thongs aren't nearly as uncomfortable and irritating as I had anticipated them being.

Next on, yes, I'm wearing multiple pairs today - even in this heat, was a Jockey bikini. It's ribbed, and very form-fitting. Very hot, if you ask me. They're a bit tight at the leg holes, but it keeps the otherwise slinky material from creeping up my butt. They just naturally fit into my crack if I pull them up a bit too much, and hug me well if I wear them where they should be.

And as if that wasn't enough, I put on a trunk I just obtained. I understood and knew the difference between a trunk and a boxer brief, but it's a blurry line for most brands.

I've had success with cheap underwear, and that includes Old Navy boxerbriefs and briefs. Their boxerbriefs are a good bit shorter than the Jockey, Hanes, or FTL boxerbriefs I've owned, so I figured a trunk would feel like the Old Navy boxerbriefs.

Not the Jockey pouch trunk I put on this morning. It's tight everywhere! Not strangulation, though, because it's a uniform support. I know the legs aren't going to creep up on me, and neither will anything else because there's no excess material to bunch up at all.

And the pouch actually fits. It lifts and pulls me forward, it doesn't let me fall into the pouch, like most of the thongs I've owned. It's great.

And by the way, all three for a cumulative total of under $15! Thong = $8, Bikini = $1.99, Trunk = $5.00.

Wearing briefs in the bedroom only ruins the mood for silly people.

I don't actually recall the last day I wore boxers.

It couldn't have been too long ago, because there's a dirty pair on the floor that hasn't made it into the laundry. But I just don't remember what day I wore them, or how long ago.

I'm a briefs guy. (Though not the one in the picture.)

I'm most comfortable in a pair of briefs. And there's nothing wrong with that.

My girlfriend may like it when I wear boxers, but she doesn't actively complain about briefs or boxerbriefs. So, I will continue to wear them regularly.

It seems that as long as I love her, and treat her right, (and the sex is mind-blowing), it doesn't matter that I'm a briefs guy.

Now, I understand some people who say they don't like when a guy takes off his pants and they see a pair of briefs, but I also think most of the time, that's specific to the FIRST time a guy takes off his pants, or until the two are totally enamored with each other. After the first few times, and this person is really liking you, they may think they look silly, or even bad, but you're still the greatest thing since sliced bread, aren't you?

So how much does it really matter? It doesn't. It shouldn't.

If this significant other of yours just won't stop begging you to put on a pair of boxers, or they say that it ruins the mood, drop the person, not the underwear.

They have a slew of color combinations and patterns, and it appears that each design can be found on briefs, trunks, or boxerbriefs. Personally, I've been in the market for some red briefs, and thought I was going to end up with C-IN2 or 2(x)ist briefs, but they seem like they might be a bit more low-rise than I'm comfortable in.

These styles appear to be selling out very quickly, so I would jump at the chance to buy them online.

It's funny to try and correspond your underwear with the day of the week or some other outside force. It almost makes me feel like a conspiracy theorist. If I see a license plate with 523 WHT, and I see 5-2=3 WHT = 3 White Doves, I should go buy some Dove soap in a two-pack and wear underwear that's white and comes in a three-pack, right?

And yet, people do wear certain underwear on certain days of the week, on the likelihood of "getting lucky", and a whole lot of other things.

I would just like to suggest that as the warmer months begin coming around (at least in the Western hemisphere), that it is spring cleaning time. Time to clean out the old and in with the new.

Sound familiar? I suggested a new beginning for New Years! Well, now it's Spring! And that means a new leaf. It's time for a change, if not of style and fit, at least of the new versus the old!

I don't think 2006 will be the year of the tighty-whities, but that doesn't stop people from mentioning them, even on the very first day of the year, when Kevin says they're not for him, but he is getting a fashion makeover. And one of his readers mentions what she thinks is "really uncomfortable underwear":

January 1 is a great time to start something new. Alan started his blog and wants you to hold onto your tighty-whities, but like many good things that come to an end, the blog looks abandoned just over 24 hours later.

But some blogs are updated frequently, over an extended period of time, such as a blog that finds three people searched for Nick Carter's tighty-whities.

Speaking of finding tighty-whities, Bill forgot his, so he got some at the dollar store, but one pair ended up on the dog.

Some people just party really hard, and finding weird things in your jeans. But it isn't weird to lounge around in "pink" tighty-whities.

Way too much information, is when you read about a guy and how his ingrown hair halfway between his belly button and his pubic hair was bleeding, but fortunately, he was wearing tighty-whities for support and boxers over them for "mental comfort".

Man, there's nothing like a political argument where someone has to slip into their "Rocketman Tighty-Whities of Outrage".

Some tighty-whities just don't stay clean. And waiting for clean ones seems like it might be a bit dangerous when in a special needs classroom.

If you don't know fashion, you shouldn't talk about it as if you do, even jokingly. This guy predicts that hip-hop culture will require oversized shoes, much like the "[p]ants [which] are worn so far below the waist that often the 'boxer shorts' or 'tighty whities' are exposed." To that guy, I say he doesn't know what he's talking about. Urban culture, as somewhat reflected in department stores, is currently lagging behind hip-hop culture, which is going more and more upscale. I won't expand upon that, but I assure you I'm right.

Apparently some women refer to their underwear as tighty-whities. Because the dress she was wearing at work exposed her...again.

Valentine's Day Suggestions.

Today is St. Valentine's Day! That means it's a good day to be romantic with your significant other, or to treat yourself to chocolate indulgence regardless of your single or coupled status. It's also a good time to change your underwear, multiple times. Valentine's Day is a good time to experiment with whether that new thong will be deemed sexy or gross. Either way, it's Valentine's Day, and your other should forgive you and kiss you anyways for trying to spice up your love life.

Remember, Valentine's Day is a day full of pink and red, but a new style or different color could have the same sort of effect as heart-covered boxers. You're all cute and loved today, maybe just by yourself, but today is a good a day as ever to be adventurous. Enjoy the day!

Beyond a Brief Rebellion.

If you're still trying to decide between boxers and briefs, you aren't familiar with the underwear market who "sailed passed [sic] this tired debate long ago to chart a new course for innovative design and technology in skivvies."

Now, you have to decide from an "overwhelming variety [that] makes the decision making as confusing to men as buying a bra is for women."

Unfortunately, there's still a view from these quotes that implies that there is a right choice and a wrong choice. There's a quote from Ben Lambert of Undyworld indicating that what a man "should" wear, is based on body shape and activity being done. I want to agree, but the more I think about it, the more I disagree. A man can wear whatever he wants, regardless of body shape or activity. If a man wants to go to his construction job in a thong, so be it. If a man wants to go to work in a suit and a pair of boxers with cartoon characters on it, or a silly Ginch Gonch brief, so be it.

To be a true rebellion, all bets are off.

Sticking with the trend of highlighting other websites that have at least some underwear focus, I'd like to direct you not only to an advertiser at this site, Justus Boyz, but their new magazine. Now, I didn't read the articles, but it looks like there might be some interesting stuff in the last three issues. Beware of the tremendous number of "clean" advertisements for pornographic websites and services. But if nothing else, the magazine is aimed at gay and bi-curious men and should have more than a little eye-candy to make that audience happy.

The Great Underwear Hunt.

In my last post, I mentioned that I come across explicit content when looking for news and information on men's underwear. Using Google and other search engines and blog searches is like a great underwear hunt each and every time. So, when I came across BOYBOX, and looked at the names of the sites in the massive link list, my eyes fell upon The Great C*ck Hunt, and I figured I was going to get an eyeful of genitals...no thanks...but was curious enough to click and see what sort of a blog it was.

While the photos are across the board from funny college guys to softcore pornographic, there is plenty of underwear to be seen, and the photos are "clean". ("Clean" meaning no full frontal nudity...though pretty close at times.)

But what makes this blog stick out, is it's complete reverse posting from BOYBOX. BOYBOX posts photo after photo with no corresponding text or talk at all. The Great C*ck Hunt is all about the text. The stories are shockingly explicit, and the writing good. Check it out if you're into explicit stories.

Keeping up on Underwear.

When scouring the internet for news and information on men's underwear, I frequently come across people blogging about the most sexual things and in the most explicit language! As a straight man, I'm quick to just surf through most of them. If I want to see genitals, I'll look down at myself or the girl I'm with. So, I quite appreciate it when a site keeps it clean of the male genitalia.

Having said all of that, I realize that many readers of this blog may want to see these sites, and may appreciate if I linked to them.

Because I plan on posting less frequently than I have previously, just once or twice a week, I will likely be doing shorter posts, with more links. Though this could change at a moments notice.

To start, I'd like to point you all to BOYBOX, which posts photo after photo of men in mostly tasteful poses, with a lot of underwear shots. Once you get tired there, it should take quite a while to get through the links on the side - over 150! (Be warned that I'm linking (by my quick glance) to one "clean" site, but their may be explicit photos which I did not see and do not endorse, and that the links out of those sites may (and likely will) contain explicit material which I don't endorse.)

Store Closing, Liquidation Blowout Sales.

One of the best ways to try new clothes, including underwear, is to purchase them when they are deeply discounted. While eBay may offer up some good deals, what I'm talking about today is making sure you're aware of store closings. A company doesn't have to go bankrupt to close a store. Sometimes, a store in one location just isn't all that profitable. There are plenty of reasons why a store might close and need to get rid of their merchandise, and there are plenty of reasons why you should check it out when they do.

The other day, I went into a major department store that was closing at the closest mall. There's another one that's staying open just a few miles down the road, so I figured that most of the good stuff would just get shipped to the store that was staying open. Chances are, I was right. But that doesn't mean you can't find a few diamonds in the rough. You may have trouble sifting through the stuff. The merchandise will most likely have been consolidated onto a smaller number of racks, which may find locating the right sizes a bit more difficult, as they may not be quickly discovered from a distance. But your patience may just pay off.

With sales of 70% off, I couldn't imagine finding much of anything in my size, as I'm pretty average height and weight (a size medium all around, pretty much.) But I ended up with good stuff, including 6 pairs of underwear. I suspect there was a problem with the scanner, but the cashier noticed an error on one of the items, so I didn't question the total when it came up considerably lower than I expected. I ended up with a pack of 3 white, Jockey boxerbriefs regularly $25, a pair of no-name brand white boxerbriefs (forget the price), another Jockey boxerbrief (in gray), and a Jockey Elance Bikini (in black). Now, the extra Jockey boxerbrief and bikini were probably orphaned from packages of 2 or 3, but that just made them slash the price even more. So, I don't have the original packaging, so what? Hard to believe, but 6 pairs of underwear for just around $2!!! I swear there must have been a scanning error, but my receipt isn't itemized except for the non-underwear items and the cashier seemed more than competent, so I can't be certain. I had tags on all but one, but no matter how I slice it, I can't come to the totals they did. I suspect that some of them were deeply discounted even from the listed price on the tag, and were 70% off of the price scanned, a price which I will never know. In any case, we're talking about approximately $0.35/pair! Truly unbelievable, and I've never owned any of the styles I purchased (Jockey boxerbriefs, Jockey bikini, no-name boxerbrief).

Verdict on the underwear? Jockey boxerbriefs are tight around the legs, which means they'll stay in place, but I won't be replacing my other boxerbriefs with these. The bikini also fits tight around the legs, and the material is rather thin. So, it's very contour-revealing, to the point of seeming sheer, but overall, I would say it's a nice fit. The no-name boxerbrief fits similarly to the Jockey one, and isn't very good looking, but I don't own any white underwear with the exception of one tighty-whitey, so adding 4 white boxerbriefs is quite nice.

Verdict on the shopping? It took time, but it was definitely worth it to add 6 pairs of underwear at approximately 35 cents each. Finding my size was the most difficult part, and if you're a larger man, you may have an easier time of finding your size. Smaller men may also have even better luck than me. Though I've read that most women like guys in boxers and boxerbriefs, on occasion, there's a good woman who hearts tighty-whities. She does so with a photo of a beefy guy in his working boots and his tighty-whities.

For every girl out there who hearts tighty-whities, there's a guy who sketches a gorilla wearing tighty whities, with a picture and all from the sketchbook page, and then says he's not sure why the ape is wearing tighty whities. To him, we say, because you sketched the ape wearing tighty-whities, that's why!

From there, we can travel to the ramblings of a guy who is 18 years old, 6'9", and wearing just his tighty-whities after claiming to be "doing orgasmic" and buying sex dice, though claiming he'll never get laid. Oh, and posting at 4 AM. This is the blogosphere, where anything goes, people! But that guy isn't dreaming...

The grandest dream involves running into Kate Winslet and inviting her inside for a chat, only for the dream to become a nightmare with Uncle Mike in just his tighty whities.

Bizarre things don't just happen in dreams, though. Sometimes, you'll find a guy rockin' out with buttshakin' moves in just his tighty-whities, unaffectionately referred to as a "banana hammock", while sitting at a red light.

Unfortunately, December isn't all fun and games. Tyler, gay, but not out, wants boxer shorts for Christmas, but thinks he'll be getting tighty whities again. It's probably not very funny to wake up not remembering a big night out, but being locked out in just your tighty whities.

For the more fetish-oriented, tighty-whities might be a part of a hot outfit for hairy men.

But who knew that because girls never have to wear tighty-whities, they are better than boys?

Other news of the bizarre, is a girl confessing that she once heard that her preacher fought off a bat with the long end of the vacuum, wearing none other than just his tighty-whities.

Amongst all of the zany ramblings in the blogosphere, there is an occasion to learn that there are things about your tighty-whities that are non-negotiables and unforgivable.

But some drunken Englishman in tighty-whities, wandering into a woman's dorm, is forgivable, so long as he can kill a cockroach.

But that Englishman probably isn't getting laid, according to this post, which at least agrees that the answer to Boxers or Briefs, is both anyways.

And some guys can honestly debate with themselves the pros and cons of boxers versus briefs.

And some people can protect you from being walked in on in your tighty-whities while on vacation...though it seems that it might work to stop the drunken Englishman from walking in on you in his tighty-whities too.

And if you're not vacationing, but having a serious debate with your mother over an annual Christmas gift of underwear, it might as well be whether this whole post should be about tighty-whities or tidy-whities.

But really, what everyone wants to know when reading such classics as The Call of the Wild, is what the author looks like in his tighty-whities.

If you were wondering, this guy says it's hard to hit the toilet bowl because of luge blockage caused by tighty whities.

All the while, India is changing, and large billboards are showing men not just in boxers, but in tighty whities.

And to end 2005, Obi-Wan is in his tighty-whities, and needs to get dressed in whatever you think up.

Back in November, I had a post called, Uniform Underwear about men in the armed forces, and the underwear that is issued with a uniform. I asked, "Is a particular style and brand of underwear issued with the uniform, or required by the nature of the uniform, or is a certain style and brand of underwear highly suggested with the uniform?"

While I still don't have my answer, I didn't know that the U.S. Army is testing personal cooling suits. Nor did I know what was revealed in the comments:

Brief Grief, or Unenlightened?

Briefs are too tight, they lower your sperm count, and designer underwear is stupid. That's what I heard Jeremy Hanna say in his "article" titled "Brief Grief". I really hope he wasn't trying to be funny. Because, well, he's just not.

And please, how can someone who is over 6 feet tall and weigh over 160 pounds possibly be a size small? I'm shorter and weigh less, and was a size medium since the last 4 inches of growth before I start to shrink, and a minimum of 30 pounds of weight gain.

And so he goes out and buys some size mediums after realizing the smalls are much too small. If they're so small, wouldn't you go straight to the large size? And shock of all shocks, he doesn't fit in either the mediums or the larges. He says that they even hurt.

He lumps one unnamed designer in with all designer underwear that he's tried on and says it's a problem of design.

I just can't point out just how strange some of his points are. While I know some guys might be extraordinarily endowed with small waists, I find it hard to believe that there isn't a brief out there for them, this guy included.

According to the Guiness Book of World Records, the best selling designer underwear brand comes from the United States, and is...Calvin Klein! I'm a bit surprised, personally. I've recently come across some nice looking Calvin's, but for the most part, I've never thought all that highly of the route they've gone. More upscale than Hanes or Jockey, I always thought, but they all look almost exactly the same. What made Calvin's worth the extra dollars? Honestly, I don't know because I've never owned a pair. But I do know that sometimes spending the extra dollars does mean getting a higher quality brief, or boxer, or whatever. I think I just prefer something a bit more fashion forward when I'm dropping extra dollars. Any thoughts?

Jockstraps Also Offer Athletic Protection.

Jockstraps offer athletic support, but that's not the same as athletic protection. Support generally refers to lifting and holding while protection refers to preventing injury to the area.

I have not done any or been interested in any martial arts since I was a child, so I was pleased to be reminded in the comments of my previous post on compression shorts as a possible alternative to jockstraps for athletic support, that at least that reader (and probably many others) is engaged in martial arts, and that he has struggled (and continues to struggle) to find and wear a jock that is comfortable during that activity.

Jockstraps, or athletic supporters, as they may be called, are made for all sorts of sports. Of course, I didn't know this until recently. Who knew swimmers wore jockstraps? Not me. Who knew baseball players and hockey players and boxers and martial artists all wear jockstraps, but that not all jockstraps are treated equally? Not me.

Compression Shorts Invade 'Jockstraps Offer Athletic Support'.

Compression shorts have snuck into my research on jockstraps.

Jockstraps offer athletic support, expressive language, and a bit of humor, at their own expense in support of compression shorts.

Young amateurs like the [compression] shorts, too, even though they cost about twice as much as jocks...They're also supposed to "fight fatigue by helping prevent vascular pooling."

When I ran this by Dr. Roberts, he sounded skeptical.

No matter whether they really "fight fatigue," it's no surprise that compression shorts are eating into the jock's market share. The shorts are both more comfortable—I always thought jocks were a pain in the butt—and a lot less embarrassing-looking.

I'm inclined to agree that compression shorts are likely to be more comfortable and less embarassing-looking, but it's important to note that a compression short isn't going to protect you the way a hard cup inside a jockstrap will.

I don't think that the author does enough to emphasize the importance of a hard cup in certain activities, though he does a better job than an article on Choosing Good Athletic Support, which includes running shorts and speedos in a weak comparison of athletic support options.

Jockstraps offer more than just athletic support.

While doing some research on jockstraps, I found that the language used when talking about jockstraps is very expressive. Take for example, "It's a signifier of masculinity -- not the showy masculinity of butch leather outfits, but an easy, unforced maleness. It is, after all, the underwear of the athlete, the hallmark of sweaty sports."

"The jockstrap conceals as it reveals...And for such a macho bit of fashion, its message is surprisingly mixed..."

"[I]t's as apparel that the jockstrap usually shines. Under ripped-up jeans, baggy sweats, or by its own skimpy lonesome, the athletic supporter not only protects...but showcases..."

I've never heard such language in regards to underwear, but maybe I'm not looking hard enough...(or writing about it well enough.) The language isn't dirty, but it's easy to follow and get an image based on the words used.

It's described as being "semi-sheer stretch silk", which indicates to me that it's shiny, and maybe a bit see-through. This probably isn't a great idea for some guys, especially in black or white, as they may come across a bit feminine, but if you're going for the bright colors, a little shine isn't going to make that much difference. Plus, the yellow actually looks good. Be warned, though, that some complexions don't do well in yellow.

Washing Underwear.

Hanes suggests washing white cotton underwear in warm water, and tumble dry on medium heat. They suggest the same for colored underwear. I always wash everything in cold water. It's a habit I have after accidentally putting in light tans with some color loads and sometimes other times with white/light loads. Cold water, as far as I know, is safer in terms of discoloration.

I live alone and always put off doing my laundry. I run out of pants before I run out of underwear. It's a rare occasion for me to have all of my underwear clean. It's rather exciting when I do! Like today! I suspect I'm not normal in this respect, nor in the fact that now that I see all of my underwear lined up, I own only one true pair of tighty whities. Only one, plain white cotton brief. I go through white briefs way too fast. I don't stain my underwear that badly, or that frequently, but when they're not pristine, I throw them away. Gray, black, or any other color, I let them discolor, and am slow to throw away. I think I need to buy a Hanes white multipack soon.

Uniform Underwear

What is uniform underwear? Unifrom Underwear defined as best I can, would be underwear issued to a group, or required of a group to wear with the rest of their uniform.

I've recently wondered what the deal is with people who must wear a uniform, required by school, by the armed forces, or by prison. Is a particular style and brand of underwear issued with the uniform, or required by the nature of the uniform, or is a certain style and brand of underwear highly suggested with the uniform?

Judging by what I can find online, long underwear, at the very least, is issued by the US Military. The British army appears to issue underwear, though there is an indication in this article that underwear was not previously required. And that may explain the existence of the word "commando" for those people who choose not to wear any underwear.

I suspect that when it comes to prison, there is uniform underwear. That is to say, underwear is issued as part of the prison uniform. I suspect for men, it's plain white briefs or plain white boxers, but I'm certainly not sure, and don't plan on going to prison to find out.

And lastly, when it comes to Boy Scouts or school issued uniforms, I suspect underwear is never mentioned, as my experiences with marching band and cross country running in high school.

In marching band in high school, we were issued a polo shirt that had to be tucked into our own black pants and black shoes. We weren't a very serious marching band, and we had little funding, so it wasn't the full marching band gear you'd expect. There was certainly no mention of required underwear for our uniform. I prefer briefs when I have to tuck my shirt in, so that's what I wore.

When I ran track or cross country, everyone wore briefs during practice as far as I know. For competitions, we had been issued a pair of short shorts that had a liner. I think some guys wore briefs under them, but most of us didn't. There was certainly no mention of required underwear or even suggested underwear. Nobody said that briefs or jockstraps would be better for running. We all just knew, I guess. And I never thought of our competition gear as a uniform until just now.

Gym class we were given a pair of shorts, but guys wore whatever they normally wore. Back when I was in school, it was a pretty good mix of boxers and briefs, and maybe more briefs than boxers.

Can someone report on uniform underwear, and how it works in the armed forces worldwide, or in prison, or in other uniforms? I think it's an interesting topic, uniforms are deemed by some to be sexy, desirable, and even fetish-wear, but what's underneath that uniform?

Sheer Underwear.

While looking for Halloween underwear, I came across a whole slew of sheer underwear styles. Sheer underwear is the ultimate in sex exposure. I'm still debating whether sheer underwear is the ultimate in sex appeal. I think showing off all you've got might actually hamper sex appeal. But that's just a theory, anyways.

I have given some thought to buying a sheer black brief before, but always ended up resisting. I mean, nobody would see me in them, and really, I probably wouldn't want anyone to see me in them. It'd be purely for my own collection and to satisfy my curiosity, and I'm too conservative with my money to buy much impractical underwear, which is where sheep underwear would tend to fall by my characterizations.

I'd rather have on something less controversial to females and have my underwear come off, than be embarassed, laughed at, or ridiculed by a girl who can't handle my "see-through" underwear.

Anyways, I was looking at abcunderwear.com. This is not a new site to me, but I've always been unimpressed with the layout and the website itself. The categorization, or at least the order in which they display that categorization is confusing to me. Having said that, they've been around for quite a long time, and the collection/selection available always seems to be growing.

So, I was looking through the site, and came across a pair of sheer retro cube shorts. I thought they looked great. The sheer circles short looks great too, and I think that NDS Wear is on to something, perhaps a big trend here.

I will be getting back to the 21 Day Series that was only supposed to go through October, and appears now that it might become the longest 21 day series ever, and finish some time mid-November! I guess when I started I should've warned that 21 days didn't mean consecutive days!

Wearing Jockey Shorts.

As a follow up to the Jockey post the other day, I would like to quickly talk about/commend three of Jockey's underwear lines that surprised me when I viewed their products.

First, the Next to Nothing line should be commended because it looks great. The brief and boxerbrief are particularly strong for Jockey, by being offered in some bold colors that I wouldn't expect out of Jockey.

The Pouch line should be commended because of the willingness of Jockey to not just move beyond, and take a break from, but embrace and expand from the Y-front design to the horizontal fly.

The Seamfree line should be commended because it appears to be as close to a seamfree design as I've ever seen. It looks like it beats out their own Next to Nothing line, and even the No Show line of 2(x)ist. On the other hand, the pictures of them online just make them look horrendous. I suspect that they're remarkably better when actually on.

What do you think? I always had this image of Jockey as Y-front and not always the most practical. These lines were truly eye-opening for me...have I been living with a blind eye towards Jockey and an anti-Jockey bias?

21 Days of Refreshing Men's Underwear, Day 14.

Welcome to Day 14 of the 21 Days of Refreshing Men's Underwear.

Today, we take a look at the offerings of Jockey for men at Bare Necessities.

I grew up with Jockey Y-fronts. They were certainly not the reason I became interested in underwear. They served their purpose, but I was never a big fan of the Y-front. As a young child, I didn't like the location of the pouch. It felt too far down. When adolescence came around and things started popping up, it wasn't controlling enough.

So reviewing the lines of underwear offered by Jockey was quite a surprise to me today. Without going into all of the different lines, they have the "Next to Nothing", "Pouch", and "Seamfree" lines. They are all to be commended.

Having said that, the best looking pair of underwear is not from any of these lines, but actually the Dri-Y line. It looks to me like the Y is placed higher, is of stronger construction, and the best looking pair of underwear offered is the Jockey Dry Y Brief Underwear. They made something that's worked for them for years and years and improved upon it. It looks good to me!

Honorable mention goes to their Classic Trunk, Dri-Y Trunk, and Pouch Trunk. Assuming the length of the leg is the same in each one, it looks like it's perfect.

Halloween Underwear.

Anyways, on to a new pair of underwear! Today, we take a look at the offerings of Hugo Boss at Bare Necessities.

Hugo Boss appears to be going a very traditional and safe route for their underwear, which is exactly why I was excited about the pair I chose for today. I indicated yesterday, on Day 12 of the series, that Hanro's fly-front boxer brief did not look good and was not chosen, in contrast to the fly-front boxer brief that I featured by Diesel on Day 9.

Well, unfortunately for the Hanro fly-front boxer brief, today's best looking pair of underwear offered is a fly-front boxer brief that is implemented better than the Hanro offering.

Today, I feature the Hugo Boss Basic Button Front Boxer Underwear. Although it's called a boxer, it looks to me like it's constructed as a boxer brief. I recommend really looking closely at the differences between this fly-front boxer brief and the Hanro fly-front. The differences are subtle. It's interesting to note how a seam can really make these two pairs look different.

Today, we take a look at the offerings of Hanro for men at Bare Necessities.

Unfortunately, Hanro, like Dolce & Gabbana (featured in Day 10), is quite expensive.

I want to point out that I did not choose the fly-front boxer brief that Hanro is offering, though I pointed out that the fly-front boxer brief is "sorely missing" in most brands when reviewing Diesel on Day 9. The reason I didn't choose the Hanro fly-front boxer brief is because it does not look good, though it looked good on Day 9 in the Diesel pair. The implementation on the Hanro just doesn't do it for me.

I chose Hanro's Retro Boxer because it is shiny, and well, it's the first true boxer underwear that has looked good. That's it!

The best looking pair of underwear offered is the Hanro Basic Classics Retro Boxer Underwear.

There's not so much to see, and not so much to say about this brand. Honestly, I'd never heard of Grigioperla before. I chose the hip brief because it just plain looks good, but more than that, it is a ribbed cotton, which I indicated yesterday, is really comfortable and looks good.

Walmart Underwear Full of Life.

I was recently shopping in a Walmart. It's been years since I purchased any underwear from them, and I haven't the slightest idea what brands they carry. As I recall, though, they're big on multi-packs. And I mean BIG. I seem to recall 7, 10, and 14 pair packs of white briefs. The deal is good, but I prefer a bit more variety.

Anyways, I'm here to report. I saw a woman with her two kids in the checkout line in front of me. The girl was getting tank/panty combinations, the boy nothing, and the missing husband, two multi-packs of Life low-rise briefs. I thought Life was maybe just a Walmart brand, but when I looked it up, I found lifeunderwear.com and discovered that it's a Jockey brand, and their modern stretch line includes a very nice looking sculptured pouch collection.

You might look out for it next time you find yourself in a Walmart.

As you may have noticed, I missed posting yesterday! I haven't figured out how I'll make it up to you, or if I really need to, but boy are you in for a treat with Dolce & Gabbana. If you're turned off by expensive underwear, this isn't for you. If I could afford to drop this sort of cash to keep my groin covered and comfortable, I would. While you'll pay a lot for the name, sometimes you truly are paying for quality underwear too.

Today, we take a look at the offerings of Dolce & Gabbana for men at Bare Necessities.

Dolce & Gabbana is one of the most expensive underwear brands you can find, and that's a big reason why the pair of underwear I chose is the best looking pair. It's a bikini brief at its core, but ribbed cotton is hot. It's also incredibly comfortable. If you've never had a ribbed cotton pair of underwear, you are definitely missing out. This pair looks particularly good not because of the contrast, but because the attention is brought directly to the waistband and to the name you're wearing. And for the man or woman that doesn't appreciate bikini briefs on a man, it's gotta be forgivable when it's Dolce & Gabbana. I mean, we're talking Dolce & Gabbana!

When I saw this pair of underwear, I knew immediately that this was the best looking pair of the lot. It has a bright, colorful waistband that is good either for sagging your pants and showing off, but looks good anyways. The button fly boxer brief is sorely missing from most underwear brands. It's great for young, hip guys. It's also appropriate for men of all shapes and sizes. I believe this pair of underwear would work for the single most number of people over all of the previous pairs of underwear featured in this series.

Welcome to Day 8 of the 21 Days of Refreshing Men's Underwear. This series, while it hasn't produced that many comments, seems to have been well received thus far. But I'm hoping to add some other posts and/or take a break from it. Anyways...

Today, we take a look at the offerings of D & G at Bare Necessities.

I'm not sure whether I'm shying away from contrast underwear after featuring a contrast 2(x)ist brief on Day 1 and contrast Baskit boxer brief on Day 3 in this 21 day series, but today's choice is not the awesome looking black and white contrast stitch brief, but a black smoke colored brief. Why? It looks good because of the color and the wide waistband, which should be more comfortable than a comparable, but thinner waistband. Part of what makes it attractive, is that it isn't black and white, but a color not frequently seen. It's not heather gray, it's not black, and it should still be flattering on just about any complexion. It's made of 52% Polyamide, 38% Modal, and 10% Elastane. Which means something I have no idea about at the moment.

Today, we take a look at the offerings of Champion for men at Bare Necessities.

Though I'm generally uninspired by Champion's line of underwear, I have worn their socks, shorts, and t-shirts, at the very least, and imagine that their underwear is more than up to par. So how did I choose the sport boxer above? Well, it looks like a combination of a brief, trunk, and boxer brief, which is a cool combination. It also reminds me a bit of the retro swimsuits that are starting to show up.

The look is slimming, sleek, and gives coverage like a brief or trunk, but doesn't appear to have much of a pouch, which makes this look good and probably particularly good on someone sporty, but maybe a bit less endowed.

And the best looking pair of underwear offered is the Champion One Double Dry Sport Boxer Underwear.

Today, we take a look at the offerings of Calvin Klein for men at Bare Necessities.

There is a lot of good stuff going on with Calvin Klein, and this was a really difficult decision. Their pro stretch, pro mesh, and dri stretch lines are all wonderful choices.

What gives the 365 brief the edge is in part that it's their newest line. But also, it's a plain, traditional brief. And sometimes, basic, clean lines are the sexiest, best looking way to go. (See day 2 of this series.)

Note that the fly on the 365 brief is much better looking than their classic brief, (though probably still mostly unusable) and it appears, though the description says "classic fit", that the whole brief is more flattering.

And the best looking pair of underwear offered is the Calvin Klein 365 Brief 2 Pack Underwear.

While their boxer ranks up there in looks, it's this brief that looks like it'll accentuate your assets that gets the best looking pair for sale. I'm not sure how much of a pouch this one has, or whether you create it yourself, but my guess is this might be best for someone who is well endowed.

21 Days of Refreshing Men's Underwear

Almost all of the rest of October is going to be about refreshing your man's underwear drawer, or your own men's underwear. I say, "your own men's underwear" because I think women are surfing the site too!

My underwear drawer doesn't change a whole lot, even though I do. I own less than 10 different brands! I buy what's cheap and comfortable, and hate throwing them away when I should.

Men's underwear is a fashion statement, whether you want it to be or not. I own very little underwear that could be categorized as comfortable, affordable, long-lasting, and looks good.

Far too many other men, I'd guess, are just like me.

For the next 21 days, I'm going to explore more than just the "Bestselling Men's Underwear items at Bare Necessities." I'm exploring the best looking pair of underwear in each of the 21 brands sold at Bare Necessities.

Because what's comfortable, affordable, long-lasting, and looks good are all subjective measures, you are free to disagree with me. I hope you will speak up in the comments about my choices.

It's a lousy press release, if you ask me, with nothing newsworthy, but because of their impeccable timing with HUNG's press release, I picked it up.

Besides, if you haven't heard of HOM, you should definitely check them out.

HUNG Men's Underwear Brand walks the streets.

Arriving in my inbox this evening, is news that the HUNG promotional walk in London with men in the brand new briefs, was successful. Generally, I'd think if a bunch of men walked down the streets in their briefs, that people would take notice. I have no idea how you measure whether notice equals success.

If you've not heard of HUNG, the press release says, "'Our goal is to be the top UK-based men’s fashion underwear designer,' said HUNG’s Chairman and Managing Director, Stefanos Cunning, 'by designing underwear that not only fits comfortably, but also is extremely sexy. Our brand is about the way it makes you look and feel. And believe us, once in a pair of our men’s briefs, no one can resist that HUNG feeling.'"

Unfortunately, I don't think that the briefs are "extremely sexy". They do look good, though. They remind me quite a bit of the new Calvin Klein 365 Brief Underwear.

I also think the name might end up being detrimental to them. Some guys like the "Playboy" name or bunny on their underwear. These guys will like "HUNG" on their underwear. For those of us who are a bit more modest, regardless of our endowments, I would think, are more likely to shy away from this brand. It's a gimmick, and I hope it pays off for them, but it's an awfully risky name to stake a whole brand on, IMHO.

Men's Locker Room Underwear, Part II.

I recently started going to the gym and experiencing the locker room by myself. I planned ahead of time that I'd wear boxer briefs and try to be inconspicuous while changing. Without a buddy, I'd figure I'd let my underwear radar a little loose and see if my eyes could identify the underwear I would see in the locker room. I expected to see a guy or two in various stages of undress, and I'd see if boxers ruled the locker room or something else. I go to the gym at off hours, so I don't see too many other people, but, this is what I've seen:

Day 1:
5 guys are all changing within two or three feet of each other. They're all pretty buff. They're all bunched up in the locker room, though there are empty lockers everywhere. I see a guy in boxers, two guys I either can't see in a split second, or are fully dressed, and two guys in bikini briefs. And they seem to be taking their time. The bikini guys look like Hanes bikinis by the design and shape.

Day 2:
I only see one guy. He's sort of buff and of some Asian descent, I'd guess. He gets totally naked, and then he puts on his string bikini underwear. The string bikini is burgundy in color, though all of his clothes are black. I can't see, but I wouldn't be surprised to see Hanes written on the waistband of the string bikini.

Day 3:
I only see one guy. He's not buff. A pretty large guy, actually. He puts on some plain white bikinis. He's pretty far away from me, but I'd venture to say they're Jockey Elance bikinis.

So far, I've been seeing men in the locker room in bikini brief underwear! It's by no means a large sample or standardized or anything, but it's what I've experienced, and it's a bit of a surprise to me.

Men's Locker Room Underwear, Part I.

For people modest about their bodies, going to the gym and changing in the locker room or change room can be an awkward experience. For about half a year, I had a gym buddy. I was nervous about the locker room experience. It had been a long time since I'd been in a communal changing room, and I had no idea what proper locker room etiquette required. I have my beliefs on underwear trends, but I had no idea whether they'd play out as I suspected in the underwear seen in a locker room.

My buddy wore boxers in the locker room all of the time. Because we always went to the pool, and not to the weights, I have no idea if he'd wear something different at the weights. By going to the pool, he was wearing what he'd wear every day, and just change out of them and back into them in the end.

I wore plain boxer briefs most of the time. Every once in a while I'd wear a pair of boxers, or a pair of plain gray or black briefs. I know he noticed, and we never had any talk about underwear. I wore what I wore, and he wore what he wore.

So, I guess this is all leading up to the questions:
What is your workout underwear?
Is your workout underwear different than what you change into after a workout?

Elegant Men's Underwear, Part II.

Here is Part II of II, I think. I'm not feeling a Part III at the moment.

There were two interesting comments in part one of the Elegant Men's Underwear series. An anonymous reader said in part, "I don't think men's underwear should be elegant." This reader also indicated that men's underwear should be sexy, though. And a reader in response stated that maybe "elegant" is the wrong word in reference to men's underwear.

So, I guess this begs the question, is there a distinction between sexy underwear for men and elegant underwear for men? Or is men's underwear never elegant? Perhaps I should have posted that I was looking for "formal men's underwear?"

In that case, what is sexy, elegant, or formal?

How about these options? Personally, I find the whole "tuxedo underwear" to be silly. But below you'll see a velvet boxer, a PVC brief, and polyester boxer and thong. I haven't even brought out the possibility of metallic boxers, briefs, bikinis, or thongs. I wonder if that would be a good addition to the 8 pairs of underwear I've featured in the last two posts.

Elegant Men's Underwear, Part I.

The underwear that I own is not dull. I own boxers, briefs, bikinis, and thongs in many different colors. Well, mostly blue boxers and thongs, mostly black bikinis, and mostly black and gray briefs, but I have green, maroon, orange, stripes, and all sorts of colors.

What I don't have, is anything other than cotton. Or anything truly "fashion" or "designer". I have one pair of silk boxers, and I didn't even buy them myself, they were a gift.

Why am I telling you this? Because I recently put on some formal wear. Actually it was just a suit, but because I don't put one on that often, it's a pretty big deal. And I realized, I was wearing one of my dullest pairs of briefs. I like the security when I'm in my suit of something truly reliable and comfortable, but I realized that in the event of anyone seeing me change out of my nice (fabric) suit into my nice (birthday) suit (aka "naked"), it would make for quite a let down, I think.

I went in search of elegant men's underwear, to see if there even was such a thing, and came up with these four possibilities all from L'Homme Invisible. Are these elegant to you? Why or why not?

Only a web of men's underwear choices, Part II.

Following up on the web of choices and only web of choices posts, I would like to further my second argument with a simple Google search. A basic "men's underwear" search with or without quotes, comes up with at least 5 or 6 underwear merchants as the top results, but you won't see them selling Jockey briefs, Hanes briefs, or Fruit of the Loom briefs, which I suspect far more of the world wears than you'd think.

No, it's the upscale, designer, experimental, fashion, and erotic underwear, sometimes a combination of those kinds of underwear, that are the top results in Google.

The closest to traditional briefs that you'll find at these merchants is Calvin Klein, which, while they probably don't want to hear that I don't think of them as high-style or designer underwear, is doing a great job of filling the gap between the inexpensive Hanes briefs and the fashion world of Unico. I want to compare them with 2(x)ist and C-IN2, but hesitate to do so. I'm not sure why, though. That might just be a post for another day.

And check out this "web" brief photo. It isn't any of the brands I've mentioned, I was just trying to keep with the "web of choices" theme we have going right now.

Only a web of men's underwear choices.

Nudle's last post, Web of Choices, was a nice homage to men's underwear designers and manufacturers, as well as the merchants that sell their underwear online. It was also a nice choice of title to indicate that the Internet is a reason for the variety available in men's underwear.

But I'd like to morph the words a bit and approach the sale of men's underwear in a slightly different way. The average male underwear shopper, I would presume, goes to department stores to purchase traditional men's jockey shorts, plain men's boxers, and buys them with name brands such as Jockey, Hanes, and Fruit of the Loom.

I would love it, if that average male underwear shopper discovered and thought the following:
Shopping for men's underwear today, I am astonished with the ~~volume~~ lack of choices and how ~~fast and furious~~ just plain slow designers and manufacturers come out with new styles, colors, and ~~even~~ technologies. ~~All of this is possible because of the World Wide Web.~~ It is possible for the volume of choices and speed at which designers pump out new styles, colors, and technologies to increase, at least in part, because of the Internet. The big players in the underwear world just don't take advantage of those opportunities. While the ~~most upscale~~ department stores will carry the ~~latest and fashionable~~ traditional brands, there's no comparing them to what you'll find ~~on the web~~ in the most upscale stores. And there's no comparing the upscale stores to what you'll find on the web.

I want shopping for fashionable men's underwear to be more available to the masses who haven't thought to buy underwear online, or who like instant gratification of underwear in hand.

I have more thoughts on this, and will post them, but what are your thoughts?

All of this is possible because of the World Wide Web. While the most upscale stores will carry the latest and fashionable brands, there's no comparing them to what you'll find on the web. Flowers Under Your Pants

During my first vacation in Hawaii, I fell in love with the laid back surf attitude of the tropical islands. I dined at gourmet restaurants dressed in a Hawaiian shirt with floral print shorts, and while wearing thong sandals I received the warmest and best service I've had anywhere. It was simply the most relaxing place on earth with no pretensions. No wonder it's called paradise. I never miss the opportunity to wear those floral Hawaiian shorts. These days I wear them with a white polo tennis shirt to play squash in. I regret that I play squash only a few days a week. I want to wear it everyday. So I was rather pleased when I came across these AussieBum limited edition underwear.

What defines Hawaiian shorts and what makes them so cool is their flower pattern. The flower that symbolizes Hawaii is bold and simple. They look great on these 'tuittie' blue boxer briefs. These are limited run so I am going to get a pair before they run out.

In Blue's spirit of polls, I'd like to ask the guys, 'would you wear flower prints like these? Would you wear pink underwear?'. It seems like most of the United States has had unseasonably high
temperatures lately. Granted, we're now officially in summer, but the
end of spring felt more like mid-summer than early to mid-June.

I was walking with a good friend of mine outside in the heat. It may
have been the hottest day since the previous summer. I was sweating. I
was REALLY sweating. And of course, I begin to think about my
underwear. I began to think about just how sweaty I was down there,
and whether my choice of underwear that day was a reflection of just
how sweaty I was getting.

I don't remember at this point what I was wearing that day, but I do
know that I wasn't sure it was the most breathable, coolest fabric and
style that I could be wearing.

So what is the most comfortable, breathable, coolest underwear you can
wear for the sweaty guy? I'm thinking it's probably certain kinds of
knit boxers, maybe? A cotton thong might collect sweat well, but I'm
not sure I'd want a sweaty thong on.

Is a bikini better than a full brief? I'm just not sure.

And then, what is the best fabric to wear? I think some people would
venture to say something silky smooth...such as silk. But I think silk
is a VERY warm material, and not good for heat. The same goes for
polyester.

Thoughts?

DT Jocks is a fairly new brand that makes really stylish briefs and boxer briefs. I personally think they are cool and they might actually make me wear some briefs (*hint hint* I wear small if anyone wants to buy me some). I don't know if they'd actually fit me because the pouches on briefs in my waistsize are never big enough for me (not to brag but it's just true). But hey I'd try these. They have a really unique looking front. And they're low-rise and nice and out of sight. Briefs seem to be becoming popular again along with boxer briefs (I'll talk about that another day). I guess guys just really like having support and such. I think about underwear way too often. Take for example my driving down the street, and questioning what the guy at the bus stop is wearing underneath his slacks. I'm not interested in the guy, or getting into his pants, I'm just really curious about underwear.

So when I had the opportunity to take public transportation recently, I was staring at crotches and asses looking for "panty" lines. Though that doesn't sound right for men. And if I couldn't see anything, I'd glance at the whole person and try to figure out their style.

I'd doubt it works, but it's rather funny to picture some guys in tight bikinis.

Men's underwear brands have exploded lately. You no longer have to buy your underwear from the same three underwear manufacturers. Yet, brand loyalty may have you buying your man or yourself the same men's underwear style and same men's underwear brand that they've always been wearing.

I started as a child wearing Jockey brand underwear. Specifically, I wore Jockey's boy's briefs underwear. The y-front was all I ever knew for many years. Unfortunately for Jockey, I don't find them comfortable anymore and don't wear them.

Is there an average purchaser of men's underwear? Does the average men's underwear shopper go out each spring season and buy the same 3-pack underwear brand and style that he's worn for years and then go home to throw out the old pairs? I really don't know. But the men's underwear brands I was most well acquainted with as a child, Jockey boy's/men's underwear, Hanes boy's/men's underwear, and Fruit of the Loom boy's/men's underwear all seem to be sticking with a formula. And the formula is pretty boring, pump out 3-packs or as many as 7 (12?) pair multi packs.

But if it works for so many people, they should stick with it. I guess the rest of us will look to the more innovative brands and styles and continue to diversify our underwear collections.

(12 brands in 5 styles for me. My loyalty has yet to be tapped into. What brand underwear am I wearing today, anyways?)

Hey, I've mentioned this before (on my blog) but I'm gonna mention it again. I have noticed that there seems to be an increasing popularity in older guys wearing boys briefs. I don't know maybe they want to keep in touch with their childhood by wearing their favorite cartoon or character briefs. Whatever their reasoning the fact still remains, although we may want to do something we may grow. Yes I do mean what i said. You probably have grown since the time when you were wearing cartoon briefs and thus probably won't fit in boys briefs, unless of course you are small or like wearing really tight undies. But don't worry because now there is a company that makes fun undies for men. The company is called Ginch Gonch. Pictured are some fun briefs. They call them their firetruck briefs and put a racy description to them "Every man comes equipped with a hose. Tame the flame with fire trucks". I think it's pretty funny. Visit their site. Supposedly for isolating and supporting the testicles, I still don't understand why these exist besides sexual purposes.

There's just something about them that I can't wrap my head around. I mean, support can be found in other forms of underwear. And while I'm sure there's a circumstance, I'm not sure when isolation would be needed. And if you're just going to put a pair of pants or shorts on top of these, are you really isolating them from anything?

I'd prefer the jet brief or the jet thong, if they do the job. Or, maybe even this leather pouch! (Warning, penis pic.)

I ignored the biblical quotations and found at least part of the article, "Tight Jeans or Baggy Jeans: Culture Wars in Menswear" gave me a reason to rejoice: slimmer, tighter, low rise jeans are here to stay.

I recently bought a pair, and I have to tell you, they feel great over a pair of bikini briefs. And I think they look good too.

But this post is actually about swimwear.

Guys with underwear fetishes seem to be much more likely than non-underwear gurus to have an interest in tight swimwear and Speedos.

I am not an exception. I love Speedos. Yet, I've only ever owned one a number of years ago and only wore it under board shorts.

I'm happy to report that some guys are swimming these days in their underwear. What? Yes, really! I've seen a few guys swimming in boxer briefs in the last year.

Now, as you know, I'm shy about my interest in underwear, and that's no different with swimwear. I don't know that I could ever be comfortable being seen in a Speedo. I've considered jammers, such as this plain Speedo jammer, but I was unfortunate enough to see a teenager struggle with the appearance of his penis in one. He got out of the pool and it was sort of pointing down his leg. He adjusted it into a package, I guess, but for whatever reason, he wasn't satisfied, and he tried to point himself up, but it wouldn't stay put and he ended up tenting them. I think he settled with pointing somewhat off to the side and up, which really just isn't a good look for a penis, I don't think.

So, with my knowledge of guys wearing boxer briefs for swimming, I began to see what was going on in the world of fashion swimwear. Until recently, I had no idea there was such a thing as training suits, and have begun to think about these Speedo squarecuts or the TYR trainer, but I think they'll just be viewed as big (or high-rise) briefs, as opposed to boxer brief-style.

The Undergear Squarecut seems like it might be a good "in-between" to the shortness of the trainers and the long length of a jammer. Or check out all the midcut and squarecut swimwear over at MensUnderwearStore.com! Or the squarecut C-IN2 swimsuit here!

My interest in something tight isn't outweighed by my interest in hiding my body, though. I have nothing to be ashamed of, but I just don't really want people looking at me thinking I'm gay or weird. I know, I shouldn't feel this way, but like a ton of other guys I know, "Speedos are gay", they just haven't hit mainstream yet, so I'd be the center of attention and speculation unless making out with a woman.

That's part of the reason why the Sauvage Lace-up appeals to me. I think that the laces are bold enough, long enough, and take up enough attention, that people aren't going to notice my bulge so much. I still have to get over people looking at my ass, though. (Check out the rear view.) And the whole "Speedos are gay"-thing...wears that woman to make-out with me while I wear these?

And that brings me to my latest and most recent discovery...

They look about as tight and short as running shorts, and without the built-in lining.
Take a look at them wet at Aussiebum Asia. The white is particularly interesting because I could wear a regular Speedo underneath it, everyone would know, but I wouldn't be fully flaunting my Speedo clad body.

Even better, if I ever get back in shape, (and running was my sport), these would raise even fewer eyebrows.

Innovation

How much innovation can there be in the world of undergarments? I mean, really!

Well, quite a bit, actually.

While some people think it's just to cover you up or protect your pants from touching your genitals, underwear is oh, so, MUCH, MORE!!!

Although I was previously sort of critical of Unico and how they run small and tight, I'm falling in love with their line of underwear after viewing this page, as it's all sexy, innovative, and masculine. I particularly love the Unico Boxer Net Cut.

Adam + Eve is being real smart with the labels on their underwear, "mini brief", "brief", "mini boxer brief", "boxer brief", "mini undershort", "undershort". It takes away the confusing "boxer brief vs. trunk" debate and the stigma of "bikini brief". I hope that they expand their lines under those labels to look more like Unico. That would be like the ultimate underwear brand.

Or, I guess, it would be good for Unico to adapt the labels of Adam + Eve.

I think underwear does speak of your personality and is a reflection of who you are, especially for those of us who wear (just about) everything. I mean, it may only be a reflection of my mood the morning I put them on (or the evening for when I change to go out), but they generally say something about how I'm feeling. Contrast stitching seems like one of those things that could fit in with a mood.

But why is it that more underwear doesn't actually serve a message?

An article about underwear!

There's nothing particularly groundbreaking here, especially for those of us knowledgable about the underwear market and a desire to own many styles, colors, and brands, but it's nice to see the string bikini and thong get some airtime.

There are some nice quotes from the top people at 2xist, C-IN2, and Adam + Eve, including:

"Gay men were the first to invest themselves in underwear styles, says Adam Lippes, founder and creative director of Adam + Eve, a garment manufacturer in New York City. But now, he says, 'It's spilling over into mainstream guys.'"

I would rate that as a good marketing quote. It shouldn't alienate gay men and should likely only scare away the homophobes in the world. It legitimizes, even allows for, without in your face encouragement, mainstream guys like me to not be afraid of investing in other underwear styles.

If only I could consistently drop 25 dollars for a mini brief and 30 for a mini boxer brief.

Sling Support and Fly

Growing up on Jockey Y-fronts didn't give me a great impression of the use of a fly in a brief. I never used it. The recent horizontal fly briefs by Jockey and Munsingwear seem to be much more practical, but they're so high-rise (far down on thighs), that they just don't look very hot.

I recently discovered, thanks to a friend giving me a hand, that the fly on a boxer brief is indeed usable. But on my own, it's generally too complicated and I think it stretches them out.

And with the bikini briefs and thongs and pouch briefs, it seems that the underwear manufacturers are realizing that the fly really isn't all that great. It's just more seams, more material, and not that hot.

So, what do you do? Well, I haul my junk over the top and hook the waistband under my balls. I think I'm probably typical in that regard. Then again, I was surprised to learn many years back that some guys use the leg opening on boxer shorts as opposed to the fly.

But what happens when you add a built-in c-ring to your brief? That's the question I'm dying to have answered. The C-IN2 sling support brief and trunk, have a built-in ring to lift your package. Does this make it more complicated to take off? More difficult to make use of a urinal without appearing to be fiddling around too much?

If these questions could be answered by someone in the know, that would be great.

Let me see that thong

I've worn a few thongs, as you already know from the first post I made here.

I've found that there really is such a thing as a comfortable thong, and there really is such a thing as one that isn't ideal.

In talking to a female recently, a woman who wears thongs or g-strings exclusively, smaller is better. She says that the g-string is more comfortable with the minimal amount of material between the cheeks.

I think I'd have to agree. The CK body thong may be incredibly comfortable, and I can't knock it until I try it, but the photos just look like a lot of material going on back there. (Freshpair.com)

My Underwear History.

It really doesn't matter who I am or what kind of underwear I wear if I'm going to post about all kinds of underwear, right?

Well, I do have my biases, and that will show when I talk about certain kinds of underwear.

I grew up on Jockey Y-front briefs. Always white. When I was of middle school age, 12 or so, I began wearing boxers because everyone else did.

I ran cross country and track throughout much of high school, and wore the trusty Jockey Y-fronts again.

I saw some young men wearing bikini briefs at summer camp, and as soon as I was old enough to drive, I bought some non-descript, assorted colors (solids), bikini briefs.

I did away with the briefs for the most part, and wore primarily boxers until late in my college career.

So the last year or two of college brought boxerbriefs galore (Polo, FTL, Hanes, Gap, Old Navy) into my dresser, colored and plain briefs (2xist, Hanes, FTL, Old Navy), a few more non-descript replacement bikini briefs, and a single black thong (Undergear).

I have had the opportunity to try 2 other thongs (2xist, Canyon River Blues).

So that may begin to reveal my biases (and my preferences?)

Color my world

I don't deal well with white underwear. I always like the way it looks when it's pristine, but I'm unbelievably flatulent and sweaty down there (in all sorts of underwear), so I have trouble keeping them clean.

It's gross to talk about, and embarassing, but it is not a reflection of my hygiene!!!

As a result, I wear a lot of gray (which helps some), and a lot of black underwear. Colors are good, but when black is an available color, I rarely take the bolder choice. I really like the looks of the Unico Caribbean Bikini, though. Check out the red! (Find it at Freshpair.com)

I've never worn a string bikini, and I'm looking forward to trying one soon. There are a couple of things about the Unico that are intriguing.

They say it's "styled for fitted look that enhances profile by contouring and lifting 'package'."

This is good. No matter the size of the man, a lift is quite nice, no?

But, "sizes run slightly small for ultra fitted look, medium men may prefer to buy a size large for appropriate sizing." This is from the elastic edging to allow for the lifting and prevent the backside from riding up.

This tells me that for some men, who complain about briefs chafing and confining them - "no room to breathe" men, that these may "cut off circulation".

As a briefs lover, and someone who knows when a pair of briefs fits, any man who finds briefs too confining and to cause chafing, in my opinion, is insecure in wearing briefs and doesn't know how to buy briefs that fit. I have some FTL briefs that are too confining, but I also know they're a size too small (and my experience with FTL boxerbriefs is that they run a little small already).

But for those men not afraid of a close fit, the Unico bikini comes with a wide, 1 1/2 inch stretch elastic waistband. When it comes to waistbands, I've found wider is better. Contrast stitching is cool (and I think is the next big thing, in "contrast" to the no-seam, no-show briefs making their debuts lately.) And the Unico bikini is 93% cotton, 7% spandex, which should be great for every day use as well as for the gym.

As a straight man blogging about underwear, I gave a lot of thought to whether I wanted "GAY" plastered on the site. I don't want the heterosexual or bisexual men readers to feel as if they're visiting a "GAY" site.

This site isn't a "GAY" site. It's not intended for gay men, it's not written by gay men. This site is first and foremost about underwear. Anyone who visits this site will see that and understand that.

If gay men are the readers, that's more than acceptable. I will be screening all of the ads that get seen on this site, and it will be interesting to see what sorts of advertisers would like to advertise to gay men, and whether those ads will be appropriate for an underwear site.
